About skills to care training

We run skills to care training workshops every other month with a mix of online and in-person sessions.

The workshops are a chance for special guardians and people applying to become a special guardian to:

  • learn about the role and gain new skills

  • meet other people in similar positions

  • ask questions to experts in a safe space

Our skills to care workshops are run by an experienced member of the Connected Persons, Fostering or Post-Order support team here at Buckinghamshire Council. They last for two-and-a-half hours and give you practical advice and guidance about the most important parts of special guardianship (and temporary foster care).

You will learn more about:

  • ways to support a child with their needs

  • contact with family (family time)

  • a child’s identity and development

  • therapeutic parenting approaches

  • other common questions and situations

If you are applying to be a special guardian, please contact the connected person team to ask about attending a workshop.

If you are already a special guardian, please call the advice line to find out more.
